Putin's administration head Ivanov may chair Rostelecom board
MOSCOW, Mar 17 (PRIME) -- Head of the Russian presidential administration Sergei Ivanov may chair the board of directors of state-controlled telecom giant Rostelecom, president’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters Tuesday.
“Yes, it is really the case. Sergei Borisovich (Ivanov) may chair Rostelecom’s board of directors. It is the largest state asset in the telecommunications industry, and this is the way the government demonstrates the importance it attributes to a further development of this asset,” Peskov said.
Business daily Vedomosti reported earlier on Tuesday, citing several sources, that Ivanov was on the list of candidates to the operator’s board.
“In crisis moments, when an anti-crisis plan is being implemented, the government’s role certainly rises in the solution of economic issues. And large companies and large holdings and corporations need state support, and naturally, the presence of government representatives at boards of directors in this case facilitates the process of interrelation to a great extent,” Peskov said.
